Drones with ‘machine learning’ could be used to understand how cracks form in roads

Swinburne University Research Associate Cristobal Sierra says Australia could use a drone to take footage of roads and find cracks and damages as “machine learning allows us to understand how cracks appear”.

“When we do this over time – we can start to predict when and where those holes will appear,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

With these drones, the option to patch the road is available “rather than waiting for someone to call in or for an accident to happen,” Mr Sierra said.
