Joi Ito, director of MIT’s Media Lab thinks the term “AI” is tainted by the assumption that humans and machines should be in opposition. Think of the controversy over jobs stolen by robots.
Or the belief that AI superintelligence is somehow threatening humanity. Artificial intelligence (AI) has many different definitions. Some view it as an established technology that allows computers and machines to function intelligently. Others see it as a machine that replaces human labor with more efficient and faster results for humanity. [Sources: 1, 11]
What is AI?
In short, it is the artificial intelligence displayed by the machine. The term AI is used to describe these functions as man-made tools that mimic the “cognitive” ability of the natural intelligence of human thinking . Artificial intelligence refers to the modeling of human intelligence through computer systems. [Sources: 1, 14]
Algos that are designed to independently make decisions and learn for themselves: Blessing or Curse?
In returning to the debate about artificial intelligence versus human intelligence, recent AI discoveries mimic human intelligence more accurately than before, but machines still far exceed what the human brain is capable of.
In fact, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms are designed to enable machines to learn for themselves and make decisions like us humans. [Source: 2]
Will machines replace humans in the future?
At the Machine Learning Developers Summit 2020 (MLDS20) event in Bristol, England, Vivek Kumar, CEO of Springboard, debunked the myth of machines replacing humans and highlighted the impact of human mentoring in the creation of future technologies using AI / ML. The concept of making machines that can think and act as humans has gone from cinematic fiction to reality. [Sources: 2]
There are many examples where AI is already significantly empowering humans.
For example, high-frequency trading that uses machines in global market exchanges has replaced much of the human decision-making process. A prime example of this would be equity, commodity, and crypto exchanges, where the automation of high-frequency trading has replaced much of the human decision-making process. [Sources: 4, 14]
Are humans up to the task of being creative and empathetic in a truly positive and impactful way?
When AI takes on repetitive or dangerous tasks, it frees the human workforce to do work for which it is best equipped, tasks that, in particular, require creativity and empathy.
Getting people to do more interesting jobs can improve their happiness and job satisfaction. But are they truly able to be creative and empathetic in a positive and impactful way? That is for you to decide. It will also be something that only the passage of time can reveal. [Source: 7]
How can AI serve humanity?
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning can be implemented in many fields, and they can improve performance beyond human imagination.
With the help of artificial intelligence, humans can reach new dimensions due to the controlled development of technology. By providing more radical innovations for mankind in the future, artificial intelligence has great potential to serve society. [Sources: 6, 12]
Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered one of the most revolutionary advances in human history and the world has already seen its transformative capabilities.
Artificial intelligence technologies are being applied to tackle some of the most demanding human development challenges in the world. But key bottlenecks need to be overcome, from education to risk mitigation. [Sources: 5, 6]
AI: The Future is here now- AI has both benefits and demons to tame
It is the world at the brink of a revolution in many industries with the help of artificial intelligence. But there is a need to better understand how artificial intelligence systems are developed due to the enormous societal impacts that these technologies will have on society as a whole.
It is an ever ongoing urgent challenge that needs to be addressed. Specifically, how will humanity best be able to discern who benefits and who will not benefit from the “blessings” of AI? With any new technology, there is both a positive benefit to be realized and a “dark side” of the technology. The Deep State has taken note of this. THAT subject is for another article at another time, however!
With accurate data, we will soon be able to create artificial intelligence technology that coexists with our human ethics and efficiency. With adequate safeguards, we can ensure that our environment is more durable and safer than before. [Sources: 2, 4, 10, 14]
Is humanity up to the challenge of adopting a “dreamlike mindset”?
These rules and laws give people the hope that artificial intelligence can act responsibly and not take control of the human world. Artificial intelligence scientists need to understand that the reason for the development of this technology is geared towards humanity and the common good and cannot have a personal benefit.
Ideally, humanity will be able to embrace a dreamlike mindset to create inclusive and decentralized, responsive digital smart grids that help people ensure that technology proactively meets social and ethical obligations. [Sources: 1, 9, 12]
While there are many challenges that are to be solved as technology expands into new applications, AI is expected to generally have more positive than negative impacts on society.
AI: Both a disruptive and an innovative technology
The efficiency and other economic benefits of code-based AI will continue to disrupt every aspect of human work. Many believe that people who do the work will also change and that organizations will begin to replace humans with intelligent machines. [Sources: 7, 9, 10]
Will AI extend human capabilities or undermine our ability to think for ourselves?
Many people see AI as an extension of human capabilities, but some predict the opposite: the growing dependence of people on networks controlled by machines will undermine their ability to think for themselves, to act independently of automated systems, and to interact effectively with people.
However, these threats to AI efficiency, which replace human intelligence and the ability to build ideas, can still be viewed as mere guesses.
It is important that we make an effort to explore the merits versus the adverse effects of this technology on society as a whole!. [Sources: 9, 12, 13, 15]
The future of AI: can man and machine truly be partners?
It is to be hoped that an important element of the truly intelligent work of the future will be the expansion of the workforce, of which both man and machine will be partners.
Moreover, this future will ideally have the goal of improving humanity and humanity’s well-being, while being more efficient in execution.
For humans to balance the strengths and weaknesses of humans and machines, they need to learn how AI works and decide how best to use the judging skills of their true intelligence, in addition to learning how to balance the “best of both worlds” in finding acceptable ways of using AI to serve humanity!
